Overview:

The Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) is recruiting 200 entry-level trainees to participate in its official training programme. The department seeks individuals who are physically capable, mentally strong, disciplined, and committed to a career in public law enforcement.

This programme is designed for young residents of Tshwane who are ready to serve their communities, uphold the law, and contribute to safer public spaces.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements:

  1. Must be a South African citizen and a resident of the City of Tshwane
    • Attach proof of residence and an affidavit if the surname differs from the registered property owner
  2. Minimum educational qualification: National Senior Certificate (Grade 12)
  3. Valid manual driving licence
    • Must pass a departmental driving assessment
  4. No criminal record or pending cases
    • Fingerprints will be taken at the applicant’s cost
  5. Not listed on the National Register for Sexual Offenders or Child Offenders
  6. Not previously dismissed from any government department due to misconduct
  7. Age must be between 18 and 35 years
  8. Medically fit and able to perform physical tasks
    • Submit a valid medical certificate confirming ability to perform strenuous activity
  9. Must pass a departmental physical fitness test. Metro Police Trainee
  10. Must be willing to undergo and pass a psychometric assessment
  11. Fluent in English (reading, writing, and speaking). Metro Police Trainee
  • Language proficiency will be tested
  1. Must not have been declared unfit to possess a firearm under the Firearms Control Act (Act 60 of 2000)
  2. No visible tattoos while wearing any part of the official uniform
  3. Must be willing to sign and abide by the Tshwane Metro Police Code of Conduct

Primary Responsibilities After Training:

Upon successful completion of the training programme, recruits will be deployed to perform the following duties:

  • Enforcing the National Road Traffic Act (Act 93 of 1996)
  • Policing municipal by-laws and local regulations
  • Supporting crime prevention operations throughout the city
